Academic Experience
The UW online Master of Science in Applied & Computational Mathematics is a versatile degree with a wide range of applications. Our graduates go on to careers in fields such as actuarial science, data science, computer science and engineering.
Curriculum
Program courses give you a working knowledge of several areas of applied mathematics, building your knowledge and competence in computation, quantitative analysis and communication.
Topics covered include:
- Mathematical methods: applied analysis, asymptotics, dynamics, optimization
- Numerical analysis and scientific computing
- Climate modeling: atmospheric dynamics, global warming
- Mathematical biology: biochemistry, ecology, neuroscience
- Mathematical finance
- Nonlinear waves and coherent structures: lasers, nonlinear optics, water waves
Program Format
You can complete your master’s degree in three quarters of full-time study or choose to attend part-time and finish in two to three years.
All courses are delivered online using Canvas or another web-based learning management system. You can access lectures and course materials on your schedule from anywhere that has a high-speed internet connection.
